As a part of the family of God, we are excited about each of our brothers and sisters, our celebration of the gifts God has given to each of us through Jesus. We are a faithful family. Scripture tells us that God loves us. Families which have expericend this love want to respond by sharing it with everyone. We are a thankful family. We are grateful for the gifts that God has given to each of us to share with one another in worship, in teaching, in music, in caring and in service to the community.

Our Services

What are services like?
Vibrant. Inspirational. Christ centered. Combination of words, great hymns usually a gathering, hymn of the day and sending hymn are sung from traditional to contemporary selections. Liturgical at times and progressive at times. The message is always from the gospel. Sermons you will take home with you. Bible passages are read each week. Often psalms are chanted. Prayers and the Lord's prayer is spoken at each service. The choir praises God. Communion is weekly at all times and all places. Very professional musicians play the organ and piano and sometimes other instruments accompany. Festive events you will hear a bell choir. Peace be with you and also with you. Everyone rejoices in the sharing of the Lord's peace and the congregation moves onto the aisles to meet and greet all. Easy to follow service with a choice of following the power point presentation or reading from the bulletin. We use the latest Lutheran hymnal as a guide. God is indeed present at our worship service. So should you.

What is the community like?
Merced, California is a diverse population community. The town probably has 150 churches of all denominations. We have plenty of movie theaters, cultural center, many parks, playhouse and shopping malls. Downtown had been revised 10 years ago and is doing well with shops and food places. Though unemployment is a problem, new business ventures come to Merced. We are an agricultural community with all services available. Population of Merced alone is about 80,000 with our next town Atwater just 6 miles away. Merced has always been known as the gateway to Yosemite less than an 1 1/2 hr away.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Everyone is welcome and accepted at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. We love visitors.
