What to Expect

What are services like?
Sunday worship at Sharon Reformed is at 10:30 AM. Our service follows a historic Reformed order: a call to worship, praise songs that blend traditional hymns with modern worship music, a prayer of confession and assurance of pardon, the reading of God’s law, Scripture, and a sermon that walks verse by verse through a book of the Bible. We confess our faith together from the creeds and the Reformed confessions, share the joys and concerns of the church family, and close with a benediction. Preaching is expository and direct. We open the Bible and let it speak, and we aim to send you home with something to carry into your week. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated regularly. Dress is casual, kids are part of the service, and most folks stick around to talk afterward. Services are also livestreamed on FaceBook and uploaded to our YouTube channel for those who can’t make it in person. Sharon Reformed Church has been worshiping in Sharon Springs since 1771 and is a member congregation of the Alliance of Reformed Churches.

What is the community like?
Sharon Reformed is a growing church family rooted in the Mohawk and Schoharie Valleys. Our congregation is made up of farmers, veterans, retirees, young families, and folks who drive in from across the region. Many of us were raised in the Reformed tradition; others found it later in life. What holds us together is the Word of God and a shared conviction that the gospel is for our neighbors, not just for us. We are praying for one more. One more family, one more neighbor, one more person who meets Jesus here. Through the week you’ll find us at By the Book Bible Study on Monday nights, Thursday Night Prayer Watch, and Table Talk breakfasts where someone always brings a dish. We serve Sharon Springs through Operation Christmas Child, support missionaries in Kenya and the Philippines, and stand alongside local veterans. Our pastor is a farmer and a retired Marine, and the church reflects that: plain-spoken, hard-working, and not easily rattled. If you are new to the area, new to church, or coming back after a long time away, there is a seat and a cup of coffee waiting for you.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Then you are exactly who we hope will walk through the door. You don’t need to clean yourself up, know the songs, or have your questions answered before you come. Bring the questions. Bring the doubts. Nobody here will put you on the spot or ask you to stand up and say anything. What you will find is a church that takes the Bible seriously and talks about Jesus plainly, without pressure or gimmicks. We believe the gospel is good news for real people with real lives, and we would rather you hear it for yourself than take our word for it. Sit in the back if you like. Come as many Sundays as you want before you decide anything. And if you want to talk one on one, our pastor is a farmer and a retired Marine who has heard just about everything. He’d be glad to sit down with you over coffee, no strings attached.

Jim Peck

Meet Pastor Jim Peck In October 2024, Pastor Jim Peck was called to serve as the Senior Pastor of Sharon Reformed Church. He is an ordained minister of the Gospel through the Alliance of Reformed Churches, bringing a heart for pastoral care, biblical preaching, and gospel-centered community outreach. Before his call to Sharon Springs, Pastor Jim served at the Reformed Church of Canajoharie, first as a Deacon (2016–2019), then as an Elder (2019–2022), and finally as Associate Pastor from March 2022 to April 2024. His leadership and commitment to Christ’s mission were evident throughout his time there. In September 2017, Pastor Jim helped launch The Berean Bean, a unique third-space ministry in Canajoharie, NY — a church-run coffee shop that continues to serve as a welcoming outreach hub for the local community. Pastor Jim has a gift for apostolic ministry, often pioneering new expressions of church and mission to reach people where they are. Pastor Jim also brings a wealth of life experience to his ministry. Raised on a farm in Upstate New York, he developed a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for rural life. He is a proud veteran, having served in both the United States Marine Corps and the New York Army National Guard, retiring from military service in May 2021. Today, in addition to his pastoral role, Pastor Jim operates Jim Peck Farms LLC, a small family-run beef and hay farm. He and his wife Karlene have been married for 14 years and are the proud parents of two children — Hailey (13) and Easton (10). With a shepherd’s heart, a servant’s hands, and a vision for God’s Kingdom, Pastor Jim is honored to lead Sharon Reformed Church into its next chapter of gospel-centered ministry and mission.
