Peace Lutheran Church

About Us

A landmark in the Puyallup Valley, Peace Lutheran Church was founded by German settlers in 1898. The building was built in 1892 by Ezra Meeker (himself a Unitarian), and we purchased the building in 1900. Today we are a growing and active congregation celebrating our rich heritage and embracing the future.

Our Services are Sunday mornings at 8:15 and 10:45.

Sunday School and adult education is offered on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 (during the school year).

What to Expect

What are services like?
Followers of the Way is an original setting written by Mark Smith, our Cornerstones director. It is intended to be a reflection of the history of our worship at Peace. In addition to our liturgies, we have a Peace Choir, a handbell choir (Resounding Joy), and a seasonal Brass Choir. Cornerstones is also open to anyone over 14 who is wanting to learn aspects of leading worship through music and voice. We offer a variety of liturgical music settings here at Peace, and they aren’t always at the same time slots every Sunday. Unless otherwise noted, all service settings contain a celebration of Eucharist. In other words, we serve Communion every week at both services. We have three music leaders: Joan Linden on organ, Jill Burch on piano, and Mark Smith leading the Cornerstones music group. At this time, Joan Linden plays the ELW 4 setting, Jill Burch plays the ELW 4 and Now the Feast settings, and Cornerstones play the Liturgy of Life and Followers of the Way settings. ELW 3 and 4 are Classic Organ settings in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship book which you may recognize as Settings 1 and 2 from the Lutheran Book of Worship (the green worship book before the ELW). Now the Feast is a worship setting written by Marty Haugen and inspired by Holden Village. Liturgy of Life is a contemporary setting that we’ve been doing at Peace for many years. Some of the music we’ve been using in this service was coincidentally selected to be a part of ELW setting 8.
