Our Services

What are services like?
We use the historic liturgy as the Christian Church has done for the past 2,000 years. We don't use it because it is simply our "tradition" or because we can't think of anything better to do. We use it because week after week, it provides us exactly what we need: forgiveness of our sins. It gives us an orthodox expression to our faith and teaches us through healthy repetition the walk of a Christian: repentance, absolution, repentance, absolution, etc.

What if I'm not a Christian?
No one is born Christian. We are given the gift of faith by the working of the Holy Spirit through God's Word and Baptism. If you would like to learn more about your Savior, Jesus Christ, we would love to teach about all that He has done and continues still to do for you, as He reveals it to us in the Bible.

Samuel Gullixson

Samuel Gullixson

Pastor S. Gullixson is originally from southern Minnesota, where he attended Bethany Lutheran College for his undergraduate studies majoring in Liberal Arts, with concentration in history and religious studies, and minoring in Business Administration. After college, he spent a year teaching English in both South Korea and Chile. Upon his return from Chile, he entered Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary in Mankato, MN, the seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. He studied the original biblical languages, Lutheran theology, church history, and pastoral care for three years. After his seminary classes were completed, he served as a vicar (an internship) in Hood River and The Dalles, OR for a year and a half. He graduated from the seminary with a Masters of Divinity. Soon after, God called him to serve our congregation here in Bishop. He was ordained into the Office of the Holy Ministry and installed as our pastor on November 11, 2010. Pastor Gullixson and his wife, Anna, live in the church parsonage just outside of Bishop. They have been blessed with three children, Abel, who is 4, Simeon, who died soon after birth, and Elisha, 1 year.
