Leonard "Scooter" GainesOld Friendship AME Church is where a great number of slaves are buried. It adjoins the private cemetery of the McRae McCallister family who owned the majority of Shorterville in the 1800's. The cemetery is in poor repair and a lot of graves are overrun and in poor repair. This should be classified as a historical cemetery due to it being only church African Americans in the area from the old town of Franklin, Alabama and Shorterville worshipped. My grandmother who was born in 1892 always talked of going to service under the hill when she was a little girl. A survey of this area needs to be conducted to attempt to document the number of slaves buried here.
