Nova Church

About Us

A safe place for people with doubts, questions, and Issues.

At Nova Church, our mission is to remove barriers, build bridges and share the love of Jesus. Our worship style is contemporary and involves, video, drama, a praise band, and relevant teaching. Our dress code is casual. A life verse that we invoke often for our attenders is Matthew 5:16 -- "Let your light shine before others that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." Our chosen method of discipleship is small group ministry. Beginning in January, 2013, these groups will meet at various times and places on weekly basis. We encourage all of our attenders and prospective attenders to be involved in a small group. We support missions efforts locall, and globally through the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program. The International Mission Board has over 4500 full-time missionaries serving in 150+ nations around the world. The North American Mission Board has nearly 5000 full-time missionaries serving in Canada, Mexico, all the U.S. territories, and all 50 states. Colleton Baptist Association provides missions opportunities in our immediate area. AND, we strive to impact our community for Christ by serving the perceived needs around us. Food, shelter, clothing while sharing the truth of the gospel.

What to Expect

What is the community like?
A predominantly rural community, Walterboro is a small town of 6,000. The entire 1250 square miles of Colleton County have a population of under 40,000. Unemployment is around 13%. Racially, the county is 48% white, 47% black, and 5% hispanic, asian, native american & bi-racial. Hunting, mud-bogging, NASCAR, and college football are the major hobbies. Yet, less than 10% of the populace has a colleg degree.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We want you. Our members strive to love without judgement. We believe that Jesus came to redirect the religious and reassure the irreligious. At Nova Church, we want to be a safe place for those with doubts, questions, and issues, because we believe that our part is to love you, accept you, and encourage you on your journey toward knowing the Jesus of the gospels. We're convinced that once you get to know the Jesus of the scriptures, He will call you to respond to His love and grace.

I went to Nova Church for the first time Mother’s Day 2022, I felt the presence of a warm welcome. Me being African American they treated me has though that didn’t matter at all. I love the way the Pastor teach the way there is no distraction with choir and ushers walking up and down the aisle like churches I grew up in. Everyone I spoke to was very nice and welcomed me to come back and I attend to do just that. Thank you Nova Family for making me feel like God’s daughter and a sister to you all.

Pastor Zane Brown visited my family at the hospital after the tragic car accident that took the life of our 13-year-old family member. He so graciously obtained hotel rooms for us since we were five hours from our home. He stopped by the next morning to pray for us prior to getting back on the road, making sure we were rested and prepared to make the journey home. He was so supportive and his kind words were immeasurable. Thank you, Pastor Brown, from the Childress family, High Point, NC.
