Who We Are

At New Life, you’ll find a blend of people who love God and are committed to helping each other walk faithfully through life. Marrieds, retired, singles, grad students, and families give us the opportunity to share with and learn from each other at any phase of life. Our diversity is our strength, and instead of separating the ages and stages, we embrace and mix them together like a true family would. You’ll see older children caring for the younger ones, college singles mentoring youth, young parents gathering over their kids, and everyone enjoying each other’s strengths and differences. We desire deep connection with one another and the world, and are always looking for how God is working in life around us. For those who like definitions, we are an interdenominational community of believers- united by our pursuit of following Jesus and becoming more like Him.

We pursue this through Believing, Becoming, and Blessing.

New Life is part of the Ecclesia Network of churches and we consider ourselves in the missional church movement.

Our Services

What are services like?
Our desire is to create a space where we can experience God and participate in the reality of His Kingdom in our lives. Our Sunday gatherings are casual and energetic, yet we follow a flow to the order of worship that draws us into God’s Word and presence. When you come, you can expect to hear the story of God through the message and through the reading of Scripture; you can expect to speak the story through our songs, creeds, and witness; and you can expect to taste the Kingdom in our community and in the bread and cup of communion. As we experience God’s presence together, we pray that He would form us to go out and be a foretaste and instrument of that Kingdom in our neighborhoods.

What is the community like?
It is our understood mission that Jesus has called us to be His hands and feet in the world- and our community is oriented around this mission. We engage in the spiritual discipline of meeting in smaller groups for helping one another in following Christ, becoming more like Him in love toward God, each other, and the world around us. Each of these groups have different flavors, appeal to different kinds of people and are “being the church” in very different ways. They range anywhere from 5 to 30 people- ideally small enough for stronger encouragement, prayer, and spiritual challenges from others united in following Jesus. On-site childcare is available for these homegroups.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We encourage everyone to be involved in our community in whatever way helps them to learn about God, encounter Him, and be transformed by His Spirit.

Joe Racek

Joe Racek

Serving in full-time ministry for over 17 years, Joe has a passion for God’s people and seeing His Kingdom come on earth, as it is in Heaven. This passion led him on staff with New Life’s Campus Congregation (nlcf) in 1995, being only the 2nd ever full-time staff person at a fast growing student church. Through on-the-job training, studies, classes, and mentoring from the founding pastor, Joe was ordained in 2001. Soon after starting their family, Joe and Lisa sensed God’s call on their life to go and help lead a church planting team from [nlcf] to Los Angeles in 2002. They helped start 3 neighborhood churches while living in LA. During this time (how can you ever sum it up?) their hearts were burdened for the poor, the rejected, the addicted, the lonely, the outcast….and both have been wholly changed by the experience. Seeing the gospel at work in a city such as Los Angeles has even moreso deepened their love for Christ and desire to live out their own calling in the life set before them. Joe and Lisa have been married for 12 years and have 4 crazy awesome kids. They returned to New Life in 2009 to oversee the new downtown community, which was started out of the campus congregation to serve the growing number of families, grad students, and young professionals in the church.
