Neighborhood Bible Church - San Jose, CA

What are we all about? With so many churches already, why did this church start? Where is this church headed? Glad you asked, here is the concise answer:

The living God of the Bible is calling people worldwide into a relationship with Himself. Once in the family of God, we have a new identity and purpose to living.

1. It starts with falling in love with the Savior (everything flows from Worship)

2. After coming into relationship with God through belief in His son Jesus, we are called to grow in grace (practice) and knowledge (belief) in the context of community (Community Groups are emphasized because they are the primary tool we use to foster this growth in knowledge and unity).

3. These two components WILL result in good works…Share. This will include but not be limited to…the sharing of the gospel (every neighborhood’s biggest need!), resources, time, heart and lives.

Worship~Community~Share

At NBC, the vision of the church (what we hope to see…disciples of Jesus) and the process for that vision (how we get there…the clear path) is one and the same: Worship~Community~Share. The vision IS a process. The starting point is being in relationship with God, the end point is mature followers that would serve others by helping them find their way into this same life.

God provides leaders in the local church for this very reason…

12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians chapter 4, New Testament of the Bible)

“God’s people” are those who are “in Christ” (see Romans 6:23; Romans 8:1; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 3; Ephesians 1) and each Christian is on a path of living out what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in this way. This process happens at the individual level, as a family, as a Community Group and finally as a whole congregation. We will never stop growing in these three areas but with complete dependence on the Holy Spirit fruit will be observable. While events help give a picture of this to our community (the Hunt, Free Garage Sale, Sunday Service in the Park, Youth and Family events), the real power lies in the witness of individuals living out what God has for them each day.

Sounds really neat and simple on paper doesn’t it? It is and isn’t. Jesus was the master of taking the complex and simplifying such that anyone can understand. BUT... like those of you who’ve been alive for at least a few years understand…it isn’t. It’s un-uniform, unpredictable, at times confusing…in a word, it’s messy. But oh so worth it! This is the abundant life that only comes from living the God-life. By His grace, faithfulness and leading, we are growing up in Him and helping others do the same.
