Miller Avenue Baptist Church

About Us

Christians in the Reformed tradition

A small church in Mill Valley, began in 1946, evangelical and in the Reformed Tradition. Kent Philpott pastor, now in his 29th year. Son Vernon and wife Katie much involved in teaching and preaching. Emphasis on verse by verse teaching and Gospel preaching. Growing some now, but will likely be a small church due to no parking. Have a television program, since 1984 called The Bible Study, local television only. Much involved in various minitries at San Quentin State Prison. Kent is a high school baseball coach, Kent and Katie are engaged in our Divorce Recovery and Loss Workshop, since 1986. Lovely chapel, on Sundays a free breakfast and lunch. We love serving our Lord Jesus and go hard at it all the time. Kent is author of many books, and he and Katie operate the Earthen Vessel Publishing and also have the earthenvesseljournal.com site and invite contributors to it.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Casual and traditional at the same time. There is a short Bible exposition, currently going through Exodus. Five different people do these including Katie, the wife of the pastor. We sing hymns, have a small band which does two songs, songs with meaning, have Lord's Supper each Sunday, all welcome, time about one hour and twenty minutes. Kent is preaching through the Gospel of Matthew currently. Before the service is a full breakfast, choir rehearsal, an adult class, then after the service a lunch. We have a guitar class later in the afternoon and then the evening service, various people preach including pastors from other church, and pastors of varying denominations. We have prayers for healing as well.

What is the community like?
Lovely town, wealthy, probably described as upscale, very small Christian community, under 2% of the population so a real mission setting.

What if I'm not a Christian?
There are always the curious and seekers among us. All are welcome.

Spirit filled! I regularly travel from Cornwall, England to visit my family in Mill Valley. Having "tasted" and been disappointed by other churches in the valley, I was warmly welcomed and felt immediately at home at Miller Road. I was searching for a Jesus loving, Bible believing and Gospel preaching church... here it is. Kent & Katie are easy to talk with and truly committed to their calling. It was great to sing traditional hymns and carefully chosen modern gospel songs. The vibe is as described, traditional ,down to earth, friendly, conservative, casual and spirit filled. Praise God, Spirit filled churches are rare. Visit this Sunday and hear some Good News!!
