Who We Are

Cultivating love that is greater than our differences

Milagro Christian Church is an Open and Affirming congregation in the Disciples of Christ denomination. We are committed to sharing God's love and generously giving itself away to the world through spiritually nourishing worship, compassionate service, and authentic witness of the gospel. We cultivate love that is greater than our differences by building community, nurturing children, mission outreach and shared story.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Join us a few minutes early, and have coffee with us. Feel free to take it into the sanctuary. We sing all types of songs - traditional hymns, "secular" songs (think "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, "Mary" by Patti Griffin, "40" by U2, "One Love" by Bob Marley). Sermons last for about 15 minutes, and someone will share a bit about how they see God (We call it "show and tell.") We serve communion by intinction (which means tearing off a piece of bread from the broken loaf and dipping it in the cup. We use grape juice). We belive that God's grace is available to all, and therefore have an open communion table.

What is the community like?
The congregation is very diverse in age, gender, sexual orientation, religious background. Some of us have been in church since we were kids, some of us were raised in church, but left and swore we'd never come back. And for others, Milagro Christian Church is the first church we've ever attended. We encourage questions, and believe that every person has the ability to read and interpret scripture for themselves and that the message of the bible is availabel to all who wish to study it.

What if I'm not a Christian?
A number of us weren't when we started attending MIlagro. A number of us still aren't :) It doesn't matter to us if you call yourself a Christian, or not. What does matter is that you are looking for a place where you can explore your spirituality. We love questions. We don't claim to have all the answers, but we are willing to help you find them.
