Mighty Fortress Evangelical Lutheran Church

A partner in ministry with the LUTHERAN CHURCH-MISSOURI SYNOD

Who We Are

Mighty Fortress is a confessional congregation of Lutheran Christians located in Seward, Nebraska, in full fellowship with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Our pastor is the Rev. Dr. Daniel K. Schroeder.

We are located on Highway 15, cater-corner from the Seward Civic Center at 252 North 6th Street , which is conveniently situated on the corner of Bradford Street, just three blocks north of Main Street (U. S. Highway 34). Our facility is also in close proximity of Concordia University. We have ample parking on the south side of the building, and directly across the street at the Seward Civic Center.

We welcome you to come and visit us anytime. We know that you'll enjoy our casual atmosphere, our friendly folks, our traditional hymns and worship, and our sound Biblicly-based/Christ-centered preaching and teaching. We would also like you to consider making Mighty Fortress your church home, especially if you do not have a church home of your own. We know you'll feel right at home with us!

If you want to see and hear one of our worship services, go to our website: www.mightyfortress.us , and you will see links to the videos of our services, which can be watched on your computer or downloaded for later viewing. If you live in the Lincoln Metro (including Seward and Crete), our services are broadcasted on Time-Warner Channel 13 (or digital channels 71 or 97, depending on locale) on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm, and Sundays at 4:00pm.

Mighty Fortress, where that "old time religion" lives on!

What to Expect

What are services like?

We use The Lutheran Hymnal of 1941, which is one of the officially commissioned hymnals of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, including the traditional Common Service that has been known and loved for generations. We also have a lovely pipe organ that accompanies our worship. We strive to be "church, just like you remember it!"

What is the community like?

Seward is a city of approximately 7,000 located on the western edge of the Lincoln Metropolitan area. Seward is also the home of Concordia University Nebraska, a 4 year liberal arts University operated by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, with whom we have a continual working relationship. Mighty Fortress endeavors to be a community church, supporting the various civil activities and programs. The midwest down-to-earth lifestyle is reflected in the members of our congregation.

What if I'm not a Christian?

If you would like to discover more about the Christian faith, or if you have any questions, you are always welcome to contact us. We offer Bible Information Classes for those who want to study what God says to us in the Bible, which is designed for both those new to the faith, as well as those who have been long-time members. We strive to be "up-front" with what the Bible says, so we will be happy to share with you what we believe and teach.
