Lutheran Church Of The Cross

Lutheran Church Of The Cross

About Us

Affiliated with the Missouri Synod

This is a congregation that values liturgical worship, not for the sake of tradition alone, but from their own experience that these forms speak to their human condition and the sacraments impart God's grace. It is a congregation that values the Word, which begins with the Scriptures but continues with the conversations of its members as part of that revelation. It is a congregation which seeks to pass on the faith through education, so they have Sunbeams Lutheran School with classes from pre-school through grade 2.

What to Expect

What are services like?
They have a basic form of Preparation (confession) Word (includes preaching) Prayer, Sacrament (Lord's Supper every other week) There is an air of reverence without regidity, so we stand for the Invocation reading of the Gospel, prayers and some praise portions. Children's lessons often bring about laughter, sharing of the Peace brings often includes hugs as people know each other. Music ranges from traditional to contemporary hymns with some praise songs included as they fit the theme of the service. Sermons are conversations based on Scripture. Services last 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes.

What is the community like?
Slightly less than half are seniors who have been members for many years. The other half are families with children in school, employed singles, and young people going to college. The congregation is known for its warmth and welcome. It's potlucks are frequent and hearty. It is known as a congregation serious about prayer. Many of our seniors volunteer their time at the school. The congregation hosts a housing/feeding program for men once a year for a month.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You would be welcomed as you are. Since 50% of our school families are not Christian the congregation has learned to accept and befriend people as they are. If the person is interested in discussing what we believe and why we live as we do, we are very happy to have that converswation either privately or in a group. We do not hide the fact that we are Christian, but neither do we push our beliefs onto others who only want a personal relationship.
