Finding Belonging: a Community You’ve Been Looking For If you identify as a "religious none," find yourself in the "spiritual but not religious" camp, or are simply a local neighbor searching for a meaningful, offline community, finding a true "third place" can feel incredibly difficult. Between remote work, the fast pace of modern life, and a changing cultural landscape, genuine human connection is hard to come by. However, First Baptist Church of Laurelton (FBCL) in Brick, New Jersey, is proving that a modern church community can be exactly the welcoming, active, and inclusive space that everyday people are craving. Here is a review of why FBCL stands out as a vibrant hub for local events, deep-rooted history, and open-door hospitality. An Unwavering Spirit of Openness: "All Are Welcome" For those who have felt alienated by institutional religion or exhausted by the rigid boundaries of traditional spaces, FBCL offers a refreshing shift. Their core ethos is simple and explicit: All are welcome. You do not need a perfect track record, a specific set of rigid beliefs, or deep theological knowledge to walk through these doors. FBCL actively focuses on building a bridge to the community, making it an incredibly low-pressure environment for anyone looking to re-engage with a supportive network or explore life's big questions in a safe, non-judgmental space. For the remote workers, local creatives, and event organizers looking for physical spaces to host their own communities, FBCL offers a rare resource. Their historic community building, Ivy Hall, is actively available to the public for rentals. If you are looking to rent a welcoming, affordable, and character-rich space that supports a historic local landmark, Ivy Hall is an incredible neighborhood asset. Featuring stunning, ornate historic tin ceilings and a warm, inviting atmosphere, it is an ideal local venue for: * Birthdays, anniversaries, showers, and family receptions * Local club meetings, creative workshops, and community meetups A Rich History Anchored in the Jersey Shore Region FBCL isn't just a temporary popup or an isolated group; it is deeply woven into the historical fabric of the community. Located at 1836 Highway 88 East in Brick, NJ, the church has served generations of neighbors, providing stability, structural support, and continuous local outreach. This deep-rooted history gives the community a unique sense of permanence and grounding—something that is deeply comforting in an increasingly fast-moving, digital world. When you connect here, you are connecting to a legacy of neighborhood care. A Thriving, Event-Driven Community One of the hardest parts of adulting is finding consistent, recurring spaces to meet people naturally. FBCL solves this by operating as an active community engine. They don't just gather on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM; they live out their values through practical, hyper-local, and creative activities. Why This Matters for the "Churchless" and Community Seekers You don't have to navigate life, parenting, retirement, or career transitions in isolation. If you are looking for a place that values: Genuine, non-judgmental human connection Active, hands-on community events and creative outlets A historic, stable presence in the local Brick/Laurelton area A culture that prioritizes people over paperwork Then First Baptist Church of Laurelton is well worth a look. My father started Laurelton Park Baptist church in our living room when I was a child. I have a lot of memories from when we first moved a small house on the property and turned it into a church. I was a young teen when Pastor Fisher came on as a new young pastor. I remember the new addition being built. I met my husband and got married there. We moved to South Carolina and was back to visit when Pastor Fisher was still there, but getting ready to retire. I am very thankful to see that the church is still going strong.
