The Korean Presbyterian Church has 35 years history in Bloomington-Normal. The Korean Church is the only religious service that offers service in Korean but any and all residents are welcome to attend and experience the Korean culture. The pastor is Korean and is able to speak English, but he conducts most services in the native Korean language. Approximately 100 Koreans live in Bloomington-Normal. They meet in the church, share activities, and perform/enjoy musical worship. The church also has many non-religious event for both Korean and non-Korean community members. Recently, they hosted a visitor from North Korea who spoke of her unique trials in North Korea. She is one of only a handful of North Koreans who have escaped from North Korea and eventually made it safely to America. Most of the church members are Korea American and their spouses’ are American. The worship services are every Sunday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, with lunch provided for all people who attended the service. This is unique to the Korean culture. To help with spiritual fellowship, everyone enjoys traditional Korean food after the service. However, eating the Korean food is not required, but most people enjoy the food.

The Korean Church also offers a Korean Cultural School to help any community members learn more about the Korean language and the Korean culture. The school has Korean teachers for Americans who want to learn the Korean language, and they offer Korean history and cultural lesson to help the community learn more about the Korean people. Attending church is not a requirement to join the Korean Cultural School, and many people just attend the Korean Cultural School for cultural, educational, and social reasons without ever attending the religious services. The Korean Cultural School meets on Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, in the basement of the church. We hope you will visit.
