Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
As a Lutheran congregation, we worship. Our primary time together is on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. Spanish is our main language for ministry, but our bulletin is bilingual. Our central message is God’s grace. You don’t have to do anything to receive the love of God. We baptize both babies and adults because we believe that, at any age, we can never fully understand God’s mercy. Holy Communion is celebrated weekly, strengthening us with a holy meal for service in the world. We believe that the Bible is a living Word. We have faith that the power of the Holy Spirit can change us and guide us in Christian life. We are catholic in that we are part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. We are evangelical in that we share the good news of Jesus.

What is the community like?
San Lucas is an ideal setting to be a teaching place for the wider church. Because the property was an orphanage before being a church, there are beds, showers, and a kitchen. Past groups of mission partners have done some construction projects, sorted cans in the food bank, and hosted a health fair. The best way to learn about our ministry is to see it firsthand. Come to San Lucas for cross-cultural ministry, Spanish-language worship, and education on justice issues related to poverty, race, and immigration.

I made and donated a large stained glass for a church in south Texas. We brought it down with others from a Gethsemane in Austin. I think it may have been to San Lucas. I used a lot of browns in the panel. Could that have been for San Lucas? I’m glad to read about your work with refugees. How can we send a cash donation to support this ministry?
