What to Expect

What are services like?
You will be greeted at the door and in the foyer where you can feel free to spend a few minutes getting acquainted. The sanctuary is to your right. Seating is in pews and there are no designated seats. We begin with announcements and the celebration of birthdays and anniversaries, followed by lively worship. This is followed by our greeting time during which folks can circulate or stay near their seats to be greeted. We then sing a song that is chosen to introduce the topic of the morning's message. Once a month our choir sings a special and on other occasions, individuals or ensembles from the congregation will sing. Then the scripture is read, the message given followed by a prayer of confession in unison. Pastoral prayer comes next followed by the offering, holy communion(1st Sundays usually), a closing song and the benediction.

What is the community like?
Our congregation includes several children on up to persons in their 80's-90's. Most of us live in or around Humansville and many are long-time residents. Humansville is a rural community and we are a blue collar congregation in our ethos though we have several white collar workers among us. Folks will attend worship in overalls and in suits. We have an adult small group on Sunday morning along with children's Sunday school. We also host AA and NA meetings each week, have a women's group that meets monthly and a men's group that meets intermittently.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We'd love to have you join us. We have family members of other faiths who attend and welcome those who are curious and even skeptical. We believe our faith is strong enough to stand up to questions and doubts. We have many questions and doubts of our own that we bring before God and one another. We try to avoid language that is not easily understood. If you don't understand something, feel free to ask. Raise your hand in worship even!
