Hollywood-Beverly Christian Church

When I was around 10 or 11 years old, I used to attend Hollywood Beverly Christian Church in the early 80s for a period of 2-3 years. I was baptized by Rev. Kenneth H. Dean, who used to be our neighbor in Korea Town before he moved closer to the church. He often invited me and some other kids from our apartment on 7th and Serrano Ave to join him at church. We would go to Sunday school and the main service, where I had the opportunity to light and extinguish the candles before and after the service. We also used to play pool and basketball in the church gym. During Christmas, we would go caroling with the Church. I also have fond memories of Senior Pastor Benjamin Moore, who was one of the nicest people. We performed a play called "Jamal," and both Rev. Dean and Senior Pastor Moore convinced me to take on the role of Jamal. I am reminiscing about these experiences as I recently stumbled upon a video on YouTube by Matthew Chase Ruffino, explaining what happened to the church. It brought back a flood of memories, and it's unfortunate how things turned out. Nonetheless, those were "good times" indeed. God Bless All.
