About Us

George Gallup has said: “Americans are among the loneliest people in the world.” In the midst of busy lives, over committed schedules, and congested cities, we feel alone. Although we drive overcrowded freeways to catch overbooked flights, we live in isolation. Because of that we are a culture craving relationship.

There is a reason we crave connection. It’s the reason for which God made us. God created us for a relationship with Him and for relationships with others, for we are designed to live in community, not in isolation.

Good Shepherd is a faith community where those needed relationships can be realized, and people just like you are finding this to be true. They are discovering who they are in Christ, the depth of God's love for them,
and what it means to belong.

The Good Shepherd Family is a place to experience true community and make lasting friendships; the connection that we all crave. You have a place in God’s heart and a place in His Church, because you matter God.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services are casual, but traditional. Our goal is for all to understand the Gospel and the depth of God's love for them. Through worship, we gather in a way so that all can appreciate, learn from and impact one another in a setting in which all the elements of worship are Christ centered. We are a church of people from all walks of life, like those confined to wheelchiars and those who are visually impared. In fact, some might say that we've gone to the dogs, because on any given Sunday you will see several seeing-eye dogs in the Sanctuary.

What is the community like?
Good Shepherd has been described as very loving and accepting of people. Many have classified us as "their family." We are seen as a place where one is accepted regardless of who they are, what they've done, or what they have become.

What if I'm not a Christian?
If you are not a Christian, Good Shepherd is a place where you will be accepted and loved. Our goal is to help you understand that you are God's child, and are passionately loved by Him.

Leadership

Gregory Stenzel

Gregory Stenzel

July 2006 is when our Pastor, Rev. Greg Stenzel, began his ministry among us. Pastor Greg and his wife, Tanya, moved from his Parish in Tripoli, Iowa (St. Paul Lutheran Church) to serve Good Shepherd in San Diego. Pastor Greg's vision for Good Shepherd is to continue the missionary zeal that drove his predecessors, which we understand to be discipleship -- being a follower of Jesus Christ Matthew 28:19-20. Pastor Greg entered pastoral ministry later in life, working first in the financial services industry for almost 20-years. Responding to God's call, he entered seminary and completed his studies earning the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree (Western Seminary of Northern California and American Lutheran Theological Seminary in Minneapolis). He also completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Pastor has served congregations in Yuba City, California and Tripoli, Iowa.
