Gilgal Baptist Church

I have known Gilgal since the 1960s where my Aunt Mary Hall Nelson brought the whole family to church during Vacation Bible School. In the late 1960s I went from there to South Highlands Baptist Church where Bro. Charles T. Heltman was pastor from an E. J. Daniels tent revival to be baptized. I stayed there from 1972 till 1980 where I was convicted of my juvenile delinquent behavior to Gilgal once again this time as an adolescent/young adult. I was baptized once again by Bro. Bob Causey in 1980. I had felt that my soul was not right with God at that time and I felt that I needed to have a closer relationship with Him. It seems that I feel that way today having spent time in an institution and in jail. I figured that God has put me through a lot of testing where the devil has too. But there is something about Gilgal and its Spiritual history that brings me closer to the Lord. I couldn't feel that way at South Highlands for some awkward reason even though my Grandmother, Etta Hartley Hall, was a charter member there. She often told me to branch out to other churches where Gilgal was the first church that I took her advice. Rich in history and heritage plus its genuine Southern Baptist cause will seemingly remain possibly after I leave this earth. Bro. Bart leads a fine congregation as always a tradition of this Church.
