Who We Are
Our purpose for 99 years has been to
*Reach people for Jesus Christ
*Teach people to be daily disciples of Jesus Christ
*Heal and Nurture people in the name of Jesus Christ
Our rich history includes humble beginnings and surging grouth. We have been church of the year twice; we have been served by many talentedclergy. Our church family has benefited from devoted lay persons of strength and wisdom. We have served the Lord in this place and God has blessed us richly.
We have returned to the mission field; engaging in farmiliar and new ministries. We are once again are feeding the homeless and lost, while at the same time we feed the college students at the Wesley Foundation. We have reorganized Picayune First Church in an administrative board style while we look to improving communication within our body. At the same time we are helping feed local school children food for weekends in a ministry called"Bac-Pac". Missions we engage in are Christian Care Ministry, Shoe Box Ministry (children's toys), Military Care Packages, & Bridgeway. We charter a Cub Scout pack and a Boy Scout troop.
We offer AWANA for the children on Wednesdays.
We are serving and loving God while we love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
Both the foundation and the new vision are important. The foundation because it serves as a grounding, a lightening rod which serves us well; the new vision because nothing is permitted to remain the same forever on this material plane. We then honor our past and glean much of God's truth from living it; but at the same time we look toward what God is bringing. Picayune First United Methodist moves ahead with a resolve based on trust in our maker and hope for the future.
