First United Methodist Church of LaPlace

About Us

A place to feel at home!

Since Hurricane Isaac, we have been rebuilding our interior. However, we have not missed worshiping on Sunday! We were able to carry on by cleaning out our Fellowship Hall. We hope to be back in our sanctuary before
Easter. Our worship is a blend of traditional hymns and liturgy and contemporary music and liturgy. We're generally pretty informal. We welcome children into our worship, and always have "children's moments."
We have a small, but very active youth group and Sunday School at 9:30 for all ages. At 10:30, we move into worship. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month, and it is open to people of any or no demonination. Come worship with us!

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
We try to make our services visitor friendly. If you come to worship, and have never attended church before, you should still be able to follow along and not feel uncomfortable. The pastor welcomes the congregation and makes any necessary announcements. She also does Children's Moments. Church members lead prayers. We sing three - four hymns. The pastor leads in a pastoral prayer and we pray The Lord's Prayer together. The pastor reads the scripture and brings a message - usually about 15 minutes. We take an offering after the message, and then sing a hymn, and anyone who wishes to come forward for prayer or to join the church or to give their lives to following Christ, is invited to come forward. No pressure. No big, emotional guilt trip. Just a request to let God love you and change your life.

What is the community like?
We are very multi-generational - from infants to 92! We're about 3/4 white. We have folks of Indian, Hispanic and Island ethnicity, and folks who are African/American. We are very intentional about working to up the number of congregants of non-white ethnicity. We are inclusive of gays and lesbians, and are intentional about reaching out to include more of these children of God as well.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You are exactly who we are looking for!
