About Us

First Presbyterian Church is a 900 member congregation; a member of the National Society of Historic Places, having been established in 1857; and belongs to the Presbytery of St. Augustine of PC(USA).

We are located in the heart of the historic district in Ocala, Florida. Worship ranges from casual to traditional. We follow a structure which calls us to worship; invites our praise; provides a special time for children; challenges and comforts us with the Word read, preached and demonstrated through the sacraments; sung through the anthems and hymns; and leads us in prayers of thanks and petition.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We are about traditional and contemporary worship. We have a chancel choir, children's choir and a handbell choir.

What is the community like?
We are about loving fellowship and just plain good fun. We strive to honor our past, while preparing for the future. We are mindful that we are a community of faith striving to celebrate the grace of God in Jesus Christ, while sharing God's love with one another and those who seek to join our fellowship.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Jesus came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.

Leadership

The Rev. Dr. Raymond Guterman

The Rev. Dr. Raymond Guterman

The Reverend Doctor Raymond Guterman is a native of Donalsonville, in the Southwest corner of the state of Georgia, where he was very involved in school activities and the First Presbyterian Church. After high school, he attended and graduated with honors, with a degree in accounting from Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. This is where he sensed a Call into the Christian ministry as a profession. He went on to become Columbia Theological Seminary’s (of Decatur, Georgia) youngest graduate to receive his Doctor of Ministry degree in 1980. In seminary, he did internships in Fayetteville, Tennessee, Anniston, Alabama and North Augusta, South Carolina. Following seminary, he served as senior pastor of the Morningside Presbyterian Church of Columbus, Georgia for nine years, the Northwood Presbyterian Church of Clearwater, Florida for fifteen years, and now is in his ninth year as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala, Florida.
