First Congregational United Church of Christ

About Us

Open & Affirming UCC mixing today+tradition!

With diverse programming for all ages, we believe that God is still speaking and no matter where you are in your life's journey, there's room for you here!
We are an Open & Affirming congregation that goes into and beyond our accessible building to serve God and God's people in the world. Located at the base of Granddad's Bluff at the intersection of Losey Blvd & Main Street in beautiful La Crosse, Wisconsin, we are a justice-oriented church reaching out, reaching up, and reaching in!

Our Services

Sunday
10:00am
Our larger service, with concurrent Sunday School is held at 10. The 8:30 service is a more intimate service in our Chapel.

What to Expect

What are services like?
A blend of "today and tradition" we feel there's something for everyone. Scriptures, song lyrics/hymnody and liturgy are projected for easy viewing. The pastor has an informal, friendly style and children have a special moment up front before they adjourn to K-9 Sunday educational offerings concurrent with our 10 a.m. Worship. A shorter 8:30 a.m. Sunday service is held at 8:30 a.m. most Sundays between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

What is the community like?
A mix of all ages, young families, children, and youth from La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen, West Salem and other areas of the Coulee Region. We tend to mirror our communities, blessed with several from surrounding university and medical communities. We mirror our denomination, the United Church of Christ, in striving to be open to all God's people in united and uniting ways. We are a singing church who takes Christ's command to care for others in just and compassionate ways. Like many of the other community churches, we participate in local food pantries, meals for the needy, and efforts for a kinder, more just society.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We believe in two Sacrament: Baptism (usually, but not limited to infants) and Holy Communion/The Lord's Supper. Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior is invited to share Communion with us, generally on the first Sunday of the month and also on other special days of the church year. We strive to be welcoming to all people and we value diversity. As Congregationalists, we are very independent-minded, and sometimes we agree to disagree about what we believe and how we live out our faith.

Just reading about the Reverend is amazing I am actually from Chicago also and you just seeing his picture made me very warm-hearted and made me want to come I have never been to your church and so I'm good I have not been to church in a long time I recently not the urge to open up my faith more and especially to my children who have never been exposed to church life at all my son and I have just spoke to each other and wanting to go to church it will definitely move him so we are looking forward to come to Christmas Mass I thought that would be the perfect time to introduce him to the church and make the experience just a little bit more special. We just need to find out the times we don't know if you have Christmas Eve Mass or Christmas Day mass or both we're looking for an evening Mass so hopefully we can find a time then accommodates everyone! Looking forward to being a part of your wonderful church God bless!
