First Presbyterian Church

About Us

In the Heart of Aurora - for Good! "The White Church with the Town Clock"

First Presbyterian Church is a church that believes we are in the world to serve Christ by doing some good in the lives of people. We offer a weekly free dinner through our Fourth Street Foods Cafe, practical guidance for life at our weekly Main Street Coffee House, and something spiritually positive to begin your week during our Sunday Worship Services - one held in Aurora and the other in Dillsboro at our sister church, Hopewell Presbyterian. We also host the offices and one of the distribution sites for the local Food Bank charity known as the Clearinghouse and were the founding organization for the local Habitat for Humanity chapter.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Services at First Church range from casual traditional to contemporary. We respect a certain order in worship but are not afraid to try new things. We believe in the centrality of God's WORD in any worship service and seek to proclaim God's Good News in all our worship celebrations. On Sundays we nearly always have a gifted chancel choir and both traditional and contemporary hymns sung from a hymnal accompanied by our historic pipe organ, but we also frequently have trumpet, guitars and drums, paino, and other forms of music. On Wednesdays, we sing mostly contemporary music to either live or recorded music. Sunday services last about one hour while worship on Wednesdays occurs in the "middle" of our Main Street Coffee House with fellowship before and after. We also offer many popular and spiritual services during the church year, many of which are unique to the community we serve.

What if I'm not a Christian?
First Presbyterian welcomes searchers and inquirers and is happy to answer your questions. We believe that God's Good News is for everyone and that God's love is not contingent on how well we measure up, but on the broadness of Christ's outstretched arms. Check us out, speak to the pastor or any of our members, there is a place here for you!
