What to Expect

What are services like?
Worship at First Baptist is multi-generational and multi-faceted. The service often begins with the Baptism of new believers, always an exciting time for them and for the congregation. The congregation usually has a time of greeting others around them, giving each person a warm handshake and a friendly smile. Music will be led by our Minister of Music, Walt Brown, along with our Celebration Choir and Orchestra. Music will be blended in style, with many new songs as well as meaningful, time-honored hymns of the faith. See below if you are interested in our Chapel Worship Service with Hymns and preaching. The center-point of our service is the preaching of the sermon. Dr. White, our Senior Pastor, often preaches in series of sermons either through books of the Bible or over a relevant topic. In a series, each sermon can “stand alone”, but also ties together with the previous weeks and the weeks to come. Near the beginning of the sermon, the Pastor will announce his scripture text and the congregation will stand as he reads the scripture. We stand to recognize the Bible as God’s Word and to honor Him. The sermon will conclude with an “Invitation”, in which the Pastor and staff will stand at the front of the congregation, giving anyone an opportunity to come forward for a few moments of spiritual direction by the pastoral staff. If you would like to become a Christian or join our church, this is the perfect opportunity! Simply step into the isle and make your way to the front, where you will be greeted and prayed for. If your decision is public in nature, you will be introduced to the congregation at the end of the service. Each morning service also includes the receiving of tithes and offerings. First Baptist does not participate in fund-raising activities apart from the free-will offerings of those who attend. Many give their offerings during this collection time, while others give online, through the mail, or at the church office during the week. Our offerings provide 100% of the financial needs of the church. Dress at First Baptist is “business casual.” Some men will be in suits and ties, others in slacks and polo shirts. Women will be in dresses and skirts or slacks and blouses. Our choir is sometimes in robes and at other times in coordinating outfits. Except during the summer months, Ministers wear suits and ties. The service begins promptly at 10:45, and dismisses around 12:00. Ushers can help you find seating if you arrive late. Nursery for preschoolers is provided for every service. A children’s church is available for children up through 3rd grade, as an option. Fourth grade and above worships with family and friends together in our Worship Center. Chapel Worship is ideal for those who like the old hymns and the simple style of yesterday. Meeting in the Bolin Chapel, the one-hour service begins at 8:15 AM. In today’s “big, Bigger, and BIGGEST” arena of churches, our Bolin Chapel constantly garners comments like, “That’s the kind of church I grew up in,” “I long to worship in a place like that,” and more. There is also, on the part of many, a longing for the traditional hymns of the faith—something that is more and more difficult to find in the Katy area. If this meets your need, join us for Chapel Worship at 8:15 AM!
