Drexel First Baptist Church

the soaring steeple on this church's roof seems welcoming--it's 2 blocks away from the Drexel Mo schools. and 2-3 blocks from the businesses That seems a perfect place for youth to go after school when mom/pop/care giver are not home--so this particular church in Drexel mo. had what they called a "dollar dinner" the kid coming to that dinner would pay 1 dollar, be able to use the vast gymnasium but there was no one at the door assuring everyone paid the dollar, nor did anyone ask the very few youth who came to wash hands before eating. the pastor (with a huge belly) would come, be the 1st to eat, and his wife who worked in the local bank would usually be firs to stuff herself too, women/men providing the food/drinks and prayers were not (as far as I know) reimbursed. I don't know where the one dollar collected at basement front/parking or/and in a can in the kitchen. Women/men in charge didn't seem to care whether any one but their particular family/group was allowed to stay, eat --the very close knit group seemed to watch kids take helpings but never encouraged anyone to play table tennis or basketball or any physically healthy activity I am 88 and more than once I offered to play ping pong with the kids or adults--this pastor and his wife, im told refused to put their children in Drexel's public schools, they were here I believe at least 29 years. I noticed when Southern Baptist representatives came looking slim, healthy, pastor Steve always continued ignoring anything but looking FAT and very well placed--I'm told he has been at Drexel 1st Baptist 29 yrs before quitting or being asked to leave. he was driving a Miami co Kansas bus for disabled/elderly plus his pastor's job and his wife traveled to Paola KS Walmart --when pastor Steve had the congregation circle at Serman end he never encouraged ridership in public transportation. I guess his pastor salary and money from Miami co KS bus driver is all he needs I don't know who owned the house they lived in here in Drexel. one of the congregations in this church is the one who was incarcerated for tearing hell out of the White house. He and his very [Baptist- entrenched family are back together now. As far as I know there are no people of color in this church. I do recommend this church because it's near where i live and there is a gym for physical therapy/sports/yoga, etc. also it provides fresh clean visitation for those who wish to avoid the bar on main street--until 1 year ago the only place for a sit-down, order food is the new little Mexican, Lupe's, restaurant across street from hardware store. A few years ago, I was told, 1st Baptist Drexel, allowed residents to walk in the gym on bad days. Pastor Steve never hears of it he said. I guess if your belly is so big it's hard to see what could be good for everyone. only the dyed-in-wool money folks are truly welcome.
