Who We Are

Our Values 1. Worship-Loving God 2. Relationships-Loving people 3. Soul-Winning 4. Equipping people into Discipleship, Maturity, and Leadership 5. Restoration- Addressing Specific Problems or Addictions in specific ways, and Building Strong Families Vision of the House VISION OF THE HOUSE God’s Word teaches us that we should always be growing in four areas of our walk with the Lord. Those areas are WORSHIP, CARE, PRAYER, and EVANGELISM. When it comes to worshipping Jesus, we want to be biblically balanced, free and expressive. A true worshipper both possesses and expresses their love for Jesus without timidity or embarrassment. CARE is “love with gloves on.” Saying I love you is easier than walking it out. Going the extra mile is “being there” for others. Care is the area people expect the most from a church. However, the needs of a community is not a one-man mission. The church body as a whole must reach out and touch others. Care takes an army. God calls all believers to decide whether they will be full of love or full of themselves. Love in action speaks very loud to the unbeliever. Our prayer life is learning to take things to God and trust Him. Prayer is invading the impossible. It is ruling over circumstances with the Word. It is exercising our authority as believers. It is ever increasing faith through daily practice. “Give us this day our daily bread.” Evangelism is sharing the good news. “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel.” Each of us are to be growing in our effectiveness of sharing the gospel. Those who die without Christ are lost in eternity. Our mission is to tell them the wonderful story of how Christ died for them and paid the penalty for all of our sins. The skill, courage, and timing in sharing the gospel must be cultivated, not placed on a back burner as though nothing matters. People are lost until they are found, and “How shall they believe except they be told.” This is the VISION OF THE HOUSE for Desert Reign Assembly of God. Success to you and success to the Kingdom, Pastor Don and Deborah

Don Metcalf

Born in Chattanooga Tennessee Pastor Don grew up traveling with his parents in ministry. As evangelist, the Metcalf family traveled and held revivals for small Pentecostal churches all across America. Pastor Don attended International Bible College in San Antonio Texas where he met his wife to be, Deborah Chavers from Independence Louisiana also attending IBC. Pastors Don and Deborah have now been married for 38 years. They are joined in ministry by their two daughters, Jennifer and Angela. Jennifer is a graduate of IBC. Angela is a graduate of Portland Bible College. Pastor Don and Deborah ministered for several years to the addicted community. They served as counselors and later as the directors of Faith Farm in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. In 1983 Don and Deborah moved from Florida to Bellflower CA where they joined with Rev. Art Hughes with a vision to build a brand new work. Grace Fellowship Church later merged with Messenger Fellowship Church. In 1998 the MFC fellowship congregation became affiliated with the Assemblies of God and eventually the name was changed to Desert Reign Assembly of God. Pastor Don and Deborah have now been the lead pastors of this dynamic and evolving congregation for 29 years. In 2002, the Woodruff Christian School campus in Bellflower was purchased and became the new home for our school and preschool. At present Southland Christian Academy and Preschool have 250 students. In 2003, Desert Reign stepped out in faith, sold the church property in Cerritos and began a courageous journey to expand God’s Kingdom. In April of 2009 a new church campus was completed. Desert Reign Church of Cerritos became Desert Reign Church of Downey. Pastor Don’s life message is, “If God can use me, He can use anyone.” The fascinating testimony of His life is in a small book he authored entitled “So Broken Yet So Blessed” We are filled with high expectations because these are exciting times. We are postured to see the hand of God do tremendous things for those who cry out to Him.
