About Us
Cornerstone Ministries is an independent Christian church, and we enjoy fellowship with the Calvary Chapel Fellowship of churches.

How We Started:
In March of 1991, Pastor Bill was contacted and asked about starting a new church in Napa. Pastor Bill visited Napa every other weekend, got to know the people, shared the word, and discussed the possibility of a new church with a home fellowship that then existed.
After many weekend trips, a family vacation in July of 1991, and much prayer, the decision was made for Pastor Bill to leave his position as an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa, and move to Napa to start the new church.
Cornerstone started in September of 1991, and our first Sunday morning service was held on October 6, in the living room of the Walden home. Children’s ministry was in one of the bedrooms. Those were challenging and exciting days.
As Time Goes By:
Over the years, the church has slowly but steadily grown numerically and spiritually.
Cornerstone has been a church on the move, having met in the Walden home, a nightclub (the old Marlowe’s on Imola), Bel Aire Elementary School, a little church chapel located on 101 Homewood, the Napa SDA church on G and Brown Street, Calvary Baptist Church on Laurel Street, and presently, we meet at the Living Vine Church of the Nazarene, on Linda Vista Ave.
Statement of Faith:
Cornerstone Ministries has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ - is the foundation and cornerstone of the church. He came to restore man’s broken relationship with God. His finished work on the cross made that possible. Because of His love demonstrated on the cross by dying for our sins, we now have reason to fellowship with one another and proclaim salvation through His life, death, and resurrection.1 Corinthians 3:11, Ephesians 2:20, Romans 5:6-10
The Bible - is the inspired, infallible word of God and is relevant and applicable to man today. Therefore we place great emphasis upon teaching it in public, studying it in private and using it as a guide for our daily lives.1 Timothy 4:13, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13
Worship - We believe God is worthy of all praise, reverence, and love. We take special time to worship Him in church through song. It is our goal to worship Him with our whole lives as well; at home, at work, and at play.
John 4:23, Romans 8:28, Ephesians 4:15
Christian Growth - Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into His Image, likeness and example by the power of the Holy Spirit. We encourage this by abiding in Jesus Christ through His Word, Prayer and Fellowship, and by yielding our lives to the Holy Spirit who testifies of Jesus Christ. John 15:5, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Peter 2:2
Love - is the greatest virtue and demonstration of the reality of Jesus Christ. We endeavor to show a Christ-like love to all men. Love should be exhibited in our lives by our words as well as our actions.
John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13:13, Philippians 2:3-5Christian Service - is a part of each Christian’s life and is a responsibility of all believers. It is merely an outward sign of the love they have come to known from God and born of a desire to bless that God. Our goal is to develop the ministry of every member to the benefit of all of the body.Ephesians 4:11-13, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Bill Walden
Bill Walden is the Pastor of Cornerstone Ministries of Napa Valley. Bill was born in San Francisco in 1955, but his family moved to Orange County in 1961. Bill attended grades K-12 in Placentia, CA, and later attended Fullerton Junior College, and then Cal State Fullerton, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts/Music. Bill’s first ministry involvement came in 1980, when he joined the Christian band Undercover, and was part of a music movement in Southern California. Playing to youth as a traveling music-missionary, Bill felt a calling upon his life to be involved in serving Jesus Christ. He first started teaching the Bible in 1984, and soon realized that teaching and pastoring was the first priority for his life. Bill went on to sing with two other Christian rock groups: The Fourth Watch, from 1984-87, and then he sang with The Mirrors, from 1988-1992. Both groups recorded a record during Bill’s time with them. Though he continues in worship ministry to the present, the highest calling on his life is the role of pastor/teacher. In 1989, Bill went on staff at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, under the leadership of Pastor Chuck Smith. He served there for 2 1/2 years, as the College & Career Pastor, being ordained in 1990. In 1991, he was asked to consider starting a new church in Napa, a place he had visited while touring with Undercover in the 1980′s. He felt led of the Lord to accept the call, and he and his family moved to Napa in September of 1991. Bill has been married to his wife Debbie since 1982. They have three adult children: Sarah Schrader, who is married to Caleb, Chris, who is married to Melissa, and Jonathan Walden. They also have four grandchildfen: Isabella Schrader, Hadley Mae Walden, Judah Louis Schrader, and Eleanor Walden.Location & Directions
