About Us

The Mission of Compass is to connect with people and lead them into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Worship at this Athens church is more than an event, it's an experience! From the moment you walk into the Worship Center, until you leave, you will feel the presence of God as we worship and grow together. Our service is developed with the purpose of helping everything make sense in today's world, and the message is always something you can take with you during the week.

What to Expect

What are services like?
During a typical service at Compass, the band and singers will open with music that will get your heart pounding. After a brief moment to welcome you, we will continue with worship in preparing your heart for the message. During the message, we use Message Slides to help you follow along and fill in the notes. Following the message, the band and singers will return for a song that ties it all together.

What is the community like?
At Compass, one of our core values is Life Together. We believe that the greatest potential for life change happens when we circle up with other believers on a regular basis to experience Accountability, Belonging, Care, and Spiritual Development. From middle school to the young-at-heart, no matter what stage of life you're in, we'll find a group that suits your life-stage, your heart, and your schedule!

What if I'm not a Christian?
People Matter - consequently, we are never so close to the heart of God as when we seize the opportunity to uncommonly accept, unconditionally love, and unselfishly involve our lives with PEOPLE.

Jim Carpenter

Jim Carpenter

Jim and his wife, Lisa, have been married since 1990 and have three children. Jim is originally from Ohio, while Lisa is a true Georgia belle. Since graduating from Liberty University, Jim has served in corporate America with companies such as Nest Entertainment and Integrity Music. Jim also served in churches leading worship and creative ministries during his business career. Easter 1999 marked a new direction in Jim's life as he left the business world he had been in for 10 years and now serves full-time in the ministry as the founding pastor of Compass. In his spare time, Jim loves to play sports, work out, and coach little league baseball and soccer. Jim's biggest quirk is that he doesn't wear socks during the summer...not even on a Sunday morning!

Prayer shared their experience Jul 2020

Hello, I am emailing to ask for your prayer and consideration to be a part of an event coming up in September called "The Return" You may already know about it. After learning about this event and praying, I have felt God leading me to contact churches and ask them to be a part of prayer and fasting (if you are led to) for the repentance of our nation. Bringing revival. Would you please consider leading your church in being a part of "The Return? Information on "The Return... " can be found at TheReturn.org or TheReturnWebsite.org. I do believe we are about to see God move mountains!! Standing on God's Promise... "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. " 2 Chronicles 7:14 To God be all the Glory!!!! Thank you! Kim Byars Please share with others.
