Christ United Methodist Church

Who We Are

Christ United Methodist Church is located in the Coulwood community of Charlotte. We began in 1959, and have been growing with Coulwood and the surrounding area ever since. From a thriving preschool and children’s ministry, all the way to our active “50 Plus” seniors group, Christ UMC reflects our community. We are a church filled with young families, youth, singles, and older adults. It feels like family when you’re here.

Our worship services are diverse. Our 8:45 service features a more traditional style, complete with hymns and our chancel choir. Our praise band (SALT) leads the music in our 11:00 service, where our worship style is more contemporary. Many of our small groups meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00, during the Sunday School hour; while others gather throughout the week.

Our goal at Christ UMC is to offer our community a loving and welcoming place to praise and serve God, and strengthen relationships with Jesus Christ. We hope you will come be a part of Christ church!

Jim Humphries

Jim Humphries

Jim has served as pastor of Christ since 2006, having previously served United Methodist Churches in Huntersville, and eastern NC. He’s been married to Lisa for 25 years, and has three children: Emma (21), Abby (16), and Jack (11). Jim is a second-career pastor, having spent more than 10 years in the business world before pursuing a call into ordained ministry. He received his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill; and his Masters of Divinity from Duke University (his college basketball loyalty remains with the “lighter shade of blue”). Jim believes that the Bible is something to be lived out in the world, and therefore invites Christ UMC to be not merely “hearers” but “doers” of the word

  • I visited in the late 90's for the first time. The church holds an annual Live Nativity that my wife and I love, so we checked it out. For a long time, we sat on the back row and minded our own business. The folks around us were very nice, and very encouraging - and not pushy. In time my wife became active volunteering with children's programs; and I followed along. Eventually I found a couple of things that I liked on my own working with the Methodist Men on a couple of projects, and getting active in an adult class or two. Years later, I call this church HOME. My son has grown up here. My wife has bloomed here spiritually, leading children's events, community events, and has now gone back to school and is a commissioned Rev. I've gotten involved in several of the ministries of the church and now lead our Youth program. The people here are family. They love you, support you, help you find your way, at your pace - letting you and God work together on building that relationship and finding your passion. We offer SO MANY varying ministry projects that you're guaranteed to find a place you'll love to serve; and SO MANY chances to worship & praise him together - along with multiple generations and diverse family backgrounds! I know that if you come and spend time with us, pray with us, worship with us, and serve with us --- you're destined to call it HOME too. Come see us.
