Who We Are

Growing in love for God, love for one another, & love for a broken world.

Do you know what’s REALLY special about us here at Chestnut Street Baptist Church?

Nothing! Absolutely nothing! If you are looking for a perfect church then you are going to be very disappointed with us. At CSBC you’ll find real people, with real problems, who live real lives, and are all learning to love a real God whose grace is more than enough for all our needs.

You see, at CSBC we don’t need to cling to our own “special-ness” or “goodness” because of the cross of Jesus Christ. At His cross we find that we are really not so “good” after all. In fact, we discover that we are unquestionably guilty and yet can be unconditionally forgiven.

At Jesus’ cross we learn that He does NOT want to condemn us in our sins but to save us from them. At the cross we find that God receives us just where we are but He loves us enough not to leave us there. God can and will change lives. He is changing us and can change you as well.

So here at CSBC there are only people. People like me. People like you. People like us. People who desperately need God’s grace. Everyone is welcome to come and receive that grace. We invite you to join us on this life-changing journey.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Expect a warm welcome and joyful atmosphere. Expect to meet people who love Jesus and want to talk about what He is doing in their lives. Expect to make new friends. Expect a variety of clothing styles. Some like to dress up but many dress casually. Wear what’s comfortable, you’ll fit right in. Expect a variety of musical styles. Our motto is: “The best of all generations.” Worship team. Choir. Hymnal. Piano. Guitar. Organ. Drums. Bass. Violin. Saxophone. Depending on the Sunday, we’ve got them all. Expect to hear teaching from the Bible. Expect to hear God speak to you. Expect to be challenged to take the next step in your spiritual journey. Expect to come back and join us again!

What is the community like?
Every week, we welcome people "home" - because we are family. The community is consistently described by visitors as "friendly." We are multi-generational: families with young children and teenagers, young singles and young marrieds, empty-nesters, and more. You'll fit in here.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We're all on a spiritual journey, so come join us wherever you happen to be on yours.

Adam Kohlstrom

Adam Kohlstrom

A New England native, Adam came to CSBC in 2003 as the Pastor of Family and Youth. With the retirement of the previous pastor, Adam became the Senior Pastor in 2008. His passion is to clearly communicate the unchanging Truth of God into our ever-changing world and lives. He loves worship that unites by incorporating the best of all generations. Believing that relationships are God's primary means for spiritual transformation, Adam is an advocate for the indispensability of the Church and of small groups. Adam, his wife Leah, and their four children love life in Camden.
