About Us

We are a non-denominational church that centers our ministry on the truths of God's Word, the person of Jesus Christ, and the life that can be found in him. We have campuses in Crown Point and Cedar Lake, Indiana. Along with our weekend services, we have ministries for kids, teens, and adults.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We spend time in every service worshiping Jesus through music. A full band and vocal team lead the weekend music with a mixture of contemporary praise songs and hymns. It’s okay if you don’t know the words. You’re welcome to just listen and reflect on the message of praise and worship that each song proclaims. Preaching is the main element of the service. We teach from the Bible, the Word of God, exploring and exposing the meaning behind a particular passage and then offering application for your everyday life. To us, the Bible is not merely a historical document. We believe it is always relevant, always applicable. Through God’s Word, He meets you where you are, guiding you through whatever you’re experiencing at home or work and offering the hope of the Gospel. Knowing this, we preach the Bible and the Bible alone.

Steve DeWitt

Steve DeWitt

It has been Pastor Steve’s joy to serve as Bethel Church’s senior pastor since 1997. His primary responsibilities are teaching at our weekend services, shepherding the people, leading the staff, serving as an Elder, and providing overall vision for the church. Steve’s passions include expository preaching, the doctrines of grace, helping the church engage its culture, and the beauty of God. He often speaks in contexts outside Bethel and enjoys traveling as a part of Bethel’s global mission efforts. In addition to weekends at Bethel, Steve’s teaching ministry can be heard through Bethel’s media ministry The Journey, which incorporates web and radio formats and can be heard each weekday morning on Moody Radio FM Chicago. Steve released his first authored book in 2012 entitled "Eyes Wide Open: Enjoying God in Everything." A graduate of Cornerstone University and Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, Steve’s interests include sports of all kinds, rooting for University of Iowa teams, books, and travel. You are likely to run into him at a golf course near you. After serving as a single pastor for many years, Steve recently was married to Jennifer (August 2012). They have a baby girl named Kiralee and live in Crown Point.
