About Us

Bethel has been serving members of the Manhattan, Kansas community since former slaves from Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia organized it in 1879. Throughout it's history, Bethel has played a significant role in providing the community with the resources it needs for each believer to be his/her best self for God, each other and the world. Bethel has sponsored renowned revivalists and challenged the -isms that tend to divide people. Bethel is truly a house of God where anyone and everyone can reach their full potential for God.

What to Expect

What are services like?
This is a God-focused fellowship that believes in the power of prayer, study and God-directed relationships. Therefore, we strive to provide an atmosphere where everyone can come & make deep and abiding connections with God, each other and the world.

What is the community like?
We are small fellowship committed to becoming the best we can be for God, each other and the world. Our current ministries include a Women's Fellowship, a Men's Fellowship, Prayer & Fasting Ministry, Bethel Ensemble (Choir), Monthly Fellowship Service at Stoneybrook Retirement Facility, Bible Study, Sunday School, Ushers, Membership Training Classes, Stewards and Trustees.

What if I'm not a Christian?
This is a community that will partner with you in journey so that you can make an informed commitment to God, yourself, the fellowship and the world.

Rachel Williams-Glenn

"Pastor Rachel" as she is affectionately known, was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the AME Church on October 11, 1997 and licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist by the state of Kansas on April 18, 2011. Before being assigned to Bethel-Manhattan, she served as the pastor of churches in Brunswick, Speed, Marshall, and Odessa, MO. She received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations & French from Drake University, Des Moines, IA, the Master of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology and the Master of Science in Family Therapy from Friends University, Lenexa, KS. She resides in Topeka, KS with her husband, Rev. Gordon Glenn (Pastor of St. John A.M.E. Church in Topeka, KS), and their daughter Denver. Via Reconciliation Ministries In-Home Therapy, Pastor Rachel offers mental health services to individuals, couples and families seeking help to manage those issues and relationships that have become unmanageable.
