About Us

Our Mission is ... Becoming More Like Jesus Christ By Loving God, Loving People, And Serving Our World.

Be sure to check out our 2013-2014 Mission Plan at our website / www.2ndstreet.org/#/home/2013-2014-mission-plan

We are committed to being the church GATHERED and the church SCATTERED, to serving together, worshiping together, praying together, to the expository teaching of God's Word, to intergenerational connections, to inter-church and para-church partnerships, to a focus that is both local and global, to being a flock where special needs kids and adults are valued and cared for spiritually and physically, where issues of justice are talked about and engaged and not ignored.

What to Expect

What are services like?
A variety of worship experiences / drama, readings, art, silence, lectio-divina, prayer, reading of Scripture ... Lead pastor-teacher teaches through a book of the Bible at a time, verse-by-verse. Worship teams are rotated, with one main worship arts pastor leading from the piano. Instruments used include: keyboard, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, djimbe, cajon, violin, cello, horns, sax, penny whistle, banjo, mandolin, and more Children and youth stay in the main worship service through the worship and then are dismissed for their classes. Children and classes (3 years old to 5th grade) are held during the first Sunday service only. Nursery happens in both Sunday services. Middle schoolers meet during the first Sunday service. High schoolers meet during the second Sunday service.

What is the community like?
We are casual but Mission driven. We're about 60 miles from the beach, but we have a "beach church vibe". We talk about our Mission together often, connecting it to our decisions, our goals, our vision, and how we roll. We have people who feel called to our flock from all socio-economic, educational, and life backgrounds. The focus is Jesus Christ, seeking and worshiping Him, growing in Him, and not on titles or social standing.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We intentionally remove barriers in language and action that would be a hindrance to people who are seeking God but not yet in relationship with God. And yet we know that the goal of the church is to be salt and light for God in the world -- a visible presence of God's heart, God's mind, and God's plans in the world. So while trying to make the message of Jesus Christ accessible, we don't dumb down the message of the Gospel or the person of Jesus Christ. A fine line for sure, but it's one we take seriously about not crossing.
