    Luk De Volder

The Rev. Dr. Luk De Volder came to New Haven from Clermont-Ferrand, France, where he was Rector at Christ Church, having earlier served there since 2005 as Vicar. Christ Church is a parish in the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, and ministers to expatriate Americans working and living in France. Born and educated in Brussels, Belgium, Luk (pronounced “Luke”) is fluent in English, Dutch and French. Luk served as an ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church for six years before being received into the Episcopal Church in 2005. He is an eager learner. His study in Theology, spirituality and church leadership has been especially rewarding to him. He earned his Ph.D. in Theology and Liturgy from Catholic University in Louvain, Belgium in 2003. Luk is married to Tiffany Israel, a doctoral candidate in theology, who comes from Boston, Mass. Luk and Tiffany are happy to be part of the Trinity family and the greater New Haven community. Reflecting on his recent work at Christ Church, Luk writes: “I have learned to be flexible and understand that we are becoming and are not a finished product. This frame of reference has allowed me to see the joy and humor in the process and to be certain that anything I as the Rector or we as a community accomplish is only possible through the beating wings of the Holy Spirit. I have learned to work with passion and strategy, but not to take myself too seriously. There is a great God after all. And the parish grows.”
