  • Jason Epps

Dr. Jason Epps serves as the founding/lead pastor of The Rising. He lives with his wife, Roanne, and 3 kids, Micah, (2008), Mandy (2010), & Sammy (2012) in Salt Lake City. Outside of church, Jason spends most of his time playing golf and guitar, hiking, fishing, and reading. The Epps family loves Utah because 1) it’s a great place to raise a family, 2) it has four beautiful seasons, and 3) it now has many In-n-Out Burgers. They’re still waiting for a Waffle House to open in Utah ☺ Jason is an alumnus of Emory University (Atlanta, GA), Lee University (Cleveland, TN), Golden Gate Baptist Seminary (San Francisco, CA), Midwestern Baptist Seminary (Kansas City, MO), the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT), having earned degrees in pastoral studies, philosophy, theology, and Christian ministry. Jason completed his doctorate in 2007 and is currently engaged in post-graduate work in Christian apologetics at Biola University in Los Angeles. Jason was licensed into Christian ministry in 1998 and maintains ordination with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. He has served in various roles including that of youth pastor (GA), college pastor (TN), missionary (Cairo, Egypt), lead pastor (CA), and campus pastor/theology instructor (UT). In addition to his full-time ministry at The Rising, Jason is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he serves as Brigade Chaplain with the 96th Sustainment Brigade (Ft. Douglas, UT). He also teaches Christian Apologetics and Biblical Studies as a professor of religion at Liberty University. Jason and Roanne would love to meet you! Make sure to sign up for the “Pastor’s Open House,” an event at the Epps’ home where you will enjoy dessert, conversation, and Q&A as Jason shares his vision for the work our church is called to do here in the Valley.
