    I came to St. Gregory’s in August of 2012 after serving at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale for two years. I am a native Floridian, growing up in Miami, FL, in a family of Cuban immigrants. I come from a large family of eight children. I received her Bachelors degree in Environmental Studies from Florida International University and received a Masters Degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Memphis. I attended The Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX where I received her Masters in Divinity Degree in 2010. Prior to seminary I worked for over ten years as a computer consultant and later a Manager in Information Systems for the Johnson and Johnson family of companies. While there I managed and worked in many different management roles and capabilities. I am also a mother to teenage daughter, Victoria, and guardian to my teenage nephew, Adrian.

    I am an early riser who loves to exercise and read and enjoy time with my family. A perfect hour of free time involves a quiet corner and a good book, an hour of exercising or a visit to the beach with my family. I never tire of visiting our beaches – the ocean is the same and yet different everyday. Perhaps this is the reason that my favorite color has always been all shades of blue. If I wasn’t a priest, I’d probably be a child development researcher because I love the joys and challenges of parenting and helping children discover the gift of life, learning and serving (which is partly what I do as a priest. In fact, being a priest calls me to play many different roles – pastor, teacher, administrator, leader—which is why I love it so much). I often hear the remark that a food “tastes like chicken,” which is fine with me since chicken, especially grilled on the backyard barbecue and slathered with sauce, is my favorite food. People are often surprised to discover that I once managed a small liquor store—an experience that provided me with an endless supply of sermon stories! A favorite verse of scripture is Jesus’ words to his disciples in Matthew 16:15: “Who do you say that I am?” With God’s help, my life as a follower of Jesus is a constant attempt to answer this question, as did Peter…“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!” Formal Profile The Rev. Andrew James Sherman was born in New York City and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from American University. He received a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Virginia. He received his theological training at Virginia Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Divinity Degree. In 2005 he began his ministry as Rector of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton, FL. Prior to this calling, he served as Rector of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Gettysburg, PA and Assistant to the Rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Carlisle, PA. He has served as the Dean of the South Palm Beach Deanery in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast FL, and as a member of the diocesan Executive Board. He serves as a Co-convener, along with Rabbi David Steinhardt, of the Boca Raton Interfaith Clergy Association. He is a founding board member of Family Promise of South Beach County, an interfaith ministry to homeless families with children. He also serves on the boards of Episcopal Charities of Southeast Florida, the South Florida Haiti Project and St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton. He has previously served on the Board of Boca Helping Hands. He is married to Anita and is father of two children.
