What to Expect

What are services like?
We know what you’re asking but please indulge us a moment. Worship is like 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Worship is our life; not just what you do for an hour and change on Sundays. The words that are translated with the English word “worship” in the New Testament literally mean, “service,” “to kneel before,” or “show reverence.” We believe with the Apostle Paul that our entire life is meant to be lived this way so that when we are scattered around our community we are serving others and considering our relationship with our Creator as we do so. Most people are asking this question as it regards our gathered worship – what we do on Sundays. Our music is upbeat, easy to learn, and you can sing along with ease with the words projected on the screen. You can find most of the songs we sing on iTunes or may have heard them on a Christian radio station before. The music is typically accompanied by guitar and occasionally we sing acapella (voices only). We share communion each week. Some Christian groups call it the Eucharist; others the Lord’s Supper. They are all different ways to talk about the same thing – the past, present, and future relationship we have with our Creator through Jesus. We pray. There is usually an “invocation” as we begin our gathering and invite God’s blessing on our time together. We have a space of time where we pray for any individual concerns of our family or for events taking place in the community and world around us. Finally, a “benediction” – a blessing – is prayed over our church as we part ways and return to our work and worship outside of Sunday mornings. An offering is taken each week. We believe giving is meant to come from the heart not out of a sense of guilt or shame. However, we have learned that giving to help others and share the good news of Jesus is not only fulfilling, it has helped us re-order our priorities in such a way that we experience less concern about material things.

What is the community like?
We get it. You may have grown up in a church that was judgmental, stiff, and downright boring. You didn’t have time for it and didn’t really get anything out of it, so you left. Or, perhaps church has never been your thing. How do we know that? Because so many people in our community have had the same experience. But here’s the deal, Jesus isn’t boring. He’s far from it. He has a plan for your life and wants to know you intimately. And at JRCC, we simply exist to help you on that journey. We don’t force you, judge you, or bait you into “religious” traditions that don’t make sense. Here, it’s about an authentic relationship with Jesus and lifelong friendships with each other.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Well, you are our favorite person. First we promise to give you a safe space to explore the Christian faith and develop a real relationship with Jesus. There are no questions that we consider off limits and there is no judging here. We don't tell you how to live your life. We are just trying to live ours. Jesus brings hope, meaning, purpose and ultimately salvation for those who say yes. So if you are curious about Jesus, we understand our role as simply to point others to him because we believe Jesus changes people. We know that because we are experiencing that change and growth together each day.
