Who We Are
Pioneer Memorial UMC was part of the founding charge of the Pasadena District. We celebrated 141 years in ministry in October 2012, and look forward to many more! The mission of Pioneer Memorial United Methodist Church is to preach and teach the gospel of salvation as exemplified by the faith and good works of the Christian community.
Nestled in historic Independence, we enjoy amazing views of the Eastern Sierra. With a small town charm, Independence is also the Inyo county seat. Everywhere you look, there is a piece of Owens Valley history. But this is not just a historic town - we are continually looking ahead to ways we will continue to share the gospel and love of Christ with the surrounding community.
Whether you are from around here, vacationing in the mountains, or just passing through, our doors are open. No matter where you’re from or where you’re going, you’re sure to feel at home here at Pioneer Memorial.
We see ourselves as a community parish. We hold community meals every few months, enjoy providing space for community groups to meet, and work to reach out to those in the community that are struggling.
All are welcome here - whether you live here in town, are a seasonal resident, or are just visiting. We are a family here - and we’re always glad to get to know a new brother or sister!
