Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church

My grandfather Pedro H Aguilar built this chx. He’d met my grandmother on US side, when she was about 15yrs old. Her story is, it was her turn to wash dishes and was climbing into their chuck wagon when my grandpa saw her and wanted to court her. When he asked to marry her she said no, but he kept perusing her. She finally said yes with the stipulation that it be in a church. There wasn’t one there or in San Antonio Mexico where she was from. So my grandfather with the aid of friends built a church to marry her. The church was consecrated that day they married. The plaque there states it so. The Aguilar family made a trip there In late 1990’s and they and town’s people had a reception to commemorate the visit. There are still people living there and a priest still comes for services.
