Dr. David F. Coffin, Jr. is Senior Pastor of New Hope Presbyterian Church, a congregation he helped to plant in 1990. A graduate of St. Vincent College, Labrobe, PA, with a BA (magna cum laude) in Philosophy, David pursed studies at L’Abri Fellowship, Ligonier Valley Study Center, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, before receiving his PhD in Systematic Theology from Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA, with a dissertation entitled “Reflections on the Life and Thought of Robert Lewis Dabney With Particular Reference to His Views on Divine Sovereignty and Human Free Agency.” Before becoming a pastor, David served a number of congregations as a Ruling Elder for 14 years. During that period he worked as a legislative assistant for a Washington, DC, law firm and as a writer for Prison Fellowship. David was the founder and served for nearly a decade as director of Berea Center for Biblical and Theological Studies, Mitchellville, Maryland—the Coffin family providing hospitality for the resident student program in their home. David has served the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America in a variety of official capacities—most recently, on the Standing Judicial Commission.
