On February 5, 2003 Pastor Russ and Traci shared their vision for a new church with four other adults. They did not want a new church as in chronological age but in freshness of the Holy Spirit. Holding to the value of creating a church that allows people to rediscover the abundant life that Jesus offers while here on earth through His bride, the church. A church where people could rediscover their destinies in Him and know that someone believes in them. From there the Smith family and four other adults committed to praying about planting a church in Missoula twice a week. After four and one half months of prayer and fasting the Lord made His timing and will clear. On August 17, 2003 Pastor David Tonn of the Christian Life Center in Missoula took a generous offering and sent Pastor Russ, Traci, their family and faithful prayer leaders to be planted as a new church. August 24, 2003 was the first official Sunday gathering for Midtown Church. We met in the conference room of Bretz RV and Marine. Along with the original 13 that birthed Midtown there were 16 other people in attendance, for a total of 29. We continued meeting at the RV dealership using the kitchen for our children’s ministry until November 24, 2003.God then opened up a new location to lease at 1804 North Avenue. A former feed store converted into a store front church. Our first service at the new location was November 31, 2003 which was attended by 26 people. It was exciting to not have to set up each Saturday night and tear down every Sunday afternoon. Pastor Russ, Traci, their family and the prayer leaders did not lose sight of the vision God had given them and continued to seek Him on behalf of the lost in Missoula. During June of 2004 Midtown was able to purchase its own building. The first service at this location was July 4, 2004. This was attended by 48 people. On August 24, 2006 we moved in to our current location that seats just over 300 people. Today Midtown Church is an exciting, growing, vital part of its families, neighborhood and city. We are transforming our city through the power of God and the very special anointing and favor He has on this church. What an exciting time to be a part of Midtown Church.
