I have been privileged to serve as lead pastor here for twelve years. My wife and I are “empty-nesters” and loving every minute of it. I am a lifetime Texan…born and raised here…and I have lived all over the state. I love Texas Bar-B-Q. I follow the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. I’m a food and sports nut. I play at golf. I have a “bucket list” of courses I want to play, both here and across the pond. I am unsophisticated musically. There is a quirky song by Flogging Molly I like. Mellencamp’s “Small Town” describes my life. I love good stories: books, movies, television. Give me a story where I cannot guess the ending and I am happy. One thing I know a lot about is church. I am a lifer. I have seen the good and bad in church life – and I have seen a lot of both. My goal here has been to get rid of the stupid stuff and try to be the church as God meant it to be. The result is that HBC is probably not like most Baptist churches you have tried or heard about. What does that look like? It is a work in progress but here is a description: We believe the Bible. It is our standard. We make no apologies for it. We have a more contemporary look and sound than you might expect. We are casual. Blue jeans are welcome. We value friendship and conversation. We have a coffee shop in the foyer. We unapologetically believe that we exist for those who are not yet part of the Kingdom of God. We believe in second chances. We believe in serving our community. We want you to live life to the fullest. That happens when you know and follow Jesus. We help each other so that no one has to deal with life alone.
