About Us

ALL are welcome... ALL the time!

Dayton's First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ is "a church of spirited people dedicated to showing God's unconditional love in word and action." Founded in 1877 and incorporated in 1882, members and friends of all ages gather weekly to share in worship and fellowship and spend the rest of the week living out their call to love God and their neighbors.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Worship services are more traditional with elements of progressive faith. Liturgy includes gathering song, call to worship, a time with our kids, choir anthem, scripture, message, offering, prayers of the people, sending song. We share in communion on the first Sunday of each month, the Table set for all who are present.

What is the community like?
Multi-generational! Our youngest is six months old and we have a handful of matriarchs in their early 90s. Some families have historical connections in the Touchet Valley and many work in the community as volunteers with one of various opportunities. We are more progressive in our theology, not to the detriment of our traditions but to expand them for future generations. We are the most theologically progressive faith community in the valley, and our "congregation" includes the broader community.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Those who gather recognize that our faith basics hearken from the teachings of Jesus and leave room for conversation around his teachings in connection with the Hebrew texts, the prophets, the psalms, the epistles and various writings that were not included in the biblical canon. We do not insist everyone believe the same but rather respect the paths that have led all to share in the gatherings and worship experiences here. No matter who you are or where you are in your life or faith journey, you are welcome here!
