Dana has been attending the First Baptist Church since the age of four when she, along with her parents Lawrence (Buck) and Yvonne Miller and brother Larry found a home here. She has been an active member since she was saved and baptized in April of 1967. The role of secretary hasn't always been her job. She helped in the daily farming practices on Fellers Farm before transitioning to work at Burlington High School. She worked at Burlington until she felt God calling her to the role of secretary in February of 2005. Dana felt called to take the position as secretary because she would be able to show her compassion for people and their needs. She loves working and being with people and has a strong calling for children's ministry. She married Steve Spade on February 16, 1985 in the church here. They have enjoyed four children who have grown up in the church and attended the youth group. Their children Brian (1986), Trent (1987), Kyle (1990) and Kelli (1993) all felt God's calling to different aspects of ministry and missions. God called Steve and Dana to adopt Kelli after picking her up from the hospital when she was just two days old. All along they have felt that it was God's plans. Dana enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren Anaiah (2011), Norah (2013), Zayden (2013) and Kenzlynn (2015), quilting and watching the Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma State Cowgirls basketball.

You’ll find Brandon always building up and working in all our students lives either one on one or corporately through our small groups and student leadership teams. When he’s not working here, you’ll find Brandon at home with his family and friends enjoying video games, cooking, binge watching Netflix, or catching some fresh air riding his bike.

  • Garry McNeill

    Garry McNeill
    Pastor

Garry came to First Baptist Church as the senior pastor in June of 2015 after serving as a youth minister for 18 years. Garry graduated from Garber High School in 1995. He then graduated college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK with a degree in mass communications in 1999. While attending Northwestern, he became the part-time youth minister here at FBC in 1997. He continued in that capacity until 1999 when the church voted to bring him on as the full-time youth minister. Garry served here in that role until 2005, when he and his wife, Heather, felt the call to serve as the youth minister at First Baptist Church in Durant, OK. Garry and Heather were married in December of 2002 after meeting at Northwestern and serving together in various leadership positions at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry in Alva. They served in Durant for almost 10 years and it was in that time that they had all four of their children – Haley (2006); Reeselyn (2008); Brynlee (2010); and Garrison (2011). It was also during those years in Durant that God began to give Garry a strong desire to serve as the pastor of a local church. A few years later that passion and calling received a specific assignment as God called him here to FBC, Cherokee as pastor in 2015. Garry was saved as a child in Enid, OK and then later connected to the First Baptist Church in Garber, OK as a high school student. He became active at FBC, Alva as a college student and that is where God begin to give him a desire to serve in ministry leadership. After serving in Cherokee as the full-time youth minister for a few years, Garry began seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated from there in 2007. He has a strong desire to walk beside people through the struggles of life and encourage them along the way. He looks forward to the preparation and preaching of God’s Word each week. He also enjoys playing and watching sports, reading, and spending time with his family.
