Many Indigenous children live in poverty within the Ute Nation and in Utah’s Uintah Basin. Your donation helps to provide a safe summer and after-school place for these highly at-risk youth, encouraging learning and positive habits which break the systemic barriers that inhibit generational change. More than 150 children participate annually, yet the need is much greater!

     Ute children on the Reservation are affected by family dysfunction caused by adult alcohol and drug use, chronic health problems, high rates of suicide, and many other social problems. Art Empowers combines verbal and artistic self-expression, relationship building with adult mentors, and healthy living practices including the sharing of a substantial meal for youth age 6-17 at each session.

     Over the past 17 years, Art Empowers has been embraced by Tribal and other community leaders as the program is proven to help Indigenous children living in poverty. Repeated participant outcomes include high feelings of belonging and inclusion, increased self-esteem, improved high school graduation rates and the valuing of Native culture, music, dance and artisan traditions. 

The cost to sponsor one child for one year is $250.
