What to Expect

What are services like?
Our Sunday morning worship is liturgical in nature following the following format: Gathering Around God's Word; Proclaiming God's Word; and Responding to God's Word. Most of our music is traditional hymns and gospel songs, but we also sing come contemporary songs as well as meditative songs from the Taize and Iona communities. Just as Christ welcomed children into his midst, children are always welcome in worship. We provide "Worship Bags" that provide activities for our kids (books, coloring, etc.). Each Sunday includes a special "Children's Moment" following that time children are invited to a time of "junior church" and play, although we like for the kids to remain in church as they (and their parents) are comfortable. The nursery and junior church are available for the parents' convenience. The preaching is Bible centered and passionate, seeking to relate God's eternal Word to our lives today. Once a month we have a Sunday evening contemplative worship service. This service is modeled on the Taize community in France and includes extended times of silence, scripture readings, and songs.

What is the community like?
Wilmore is a unique little town being the home to Asbury University and Asbury Theological Seminary. These two institutions have been a blessing to the community at large - especially in bringing diversity of people, worship and theology into a small city. Wilmore Presbyterian Church has many times in its history enjoyed these gifts of diversity in age and tradition from students who worship with us. And we have learned that there are many ways to worship and to embody our faith. Having this diversity in our midst has kept us from becoming too stagnant and set in our ways. The people of Wilmore Presbyterian are friendly and try to make all people feel welcome.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We believe that God loves us, regardless of our knowledge of or love for God. We encourage people to ask questions, challenge ideas, and seek answers for that is how we grow and flourish in our faith. If you have not yet made a profession of faith (or if you have lagged in your commitment to Christ) we welcome you and want to travel the journey of life with you.
