United Church of New Marlborough

About Us

We are small but mighty Congregational church that is currently operating without a minister. The Deacons and Choir conduct the church services. Each Sunday we read scriptures as set forth in the Revised Common Lectionary. Generally, we designate the Gospel reading as our Time With The Word of God. Instead of a sermon, the congregation openly and honestly shares thoughts, wonders and doubts about the scriptures. We tend to read the scriptures from a historical, cultural, metaphorical point of view, though we also look at what a literal reading might tell us. We are a diverse congregation, loving, affirming and welcoming. We believe that God created everyone, and that everyone has every right to walk through our doors and join us on their journey to a God centered life.

Our Services

Sunday
10:00am
Services last approximately one hour. We have no Sunday School.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services begin at 10:00 am and last an hour. We follow the Revised Common Lectionary, reading each of the prescribed scriptures: Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle and Gospels. Hymn selections are tied to the scripture lessons. Instead of a sermon, the congregation discusses the Gospel reading, although it is not uncommon for each of the days scriptures to be drawn into the discussion.

What is the community like?
We're a loving, diverse bunch. There's old and young, gay and straight, single and married. We love to have new people join us.

What if I'm not a Christian?
I think we're the perfect place for someone who doesn't identify as a Christian. Faith isn't easy, and we openly acknowledge that and we talk about it from every angle.
