What to Expect

What are services like?
Worship, which we practice in the cathedral style, is central to the Cathedral of St. Paul. We take great care to give God our best using traditional ceremony, the finest music, serious prayer, and thoughtful biblical preaching. Our worship uses the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, and Sunday services include both the traditional (Rite I) and contemporary (Rite II) form of the Eucharist, or communion. All those who have been baptized in any church, including infants, may receive Holy Communion. Each service includes readings from the Bible that follow the Revised Common Lectionary. Working Preacher provides studies of the appointed readings, and the Vanderbilt Divinity Library provides weekly scriptural reflections based on an art image and prayers for worship. The Daily Office guides the church’s daily prayer in the ancient rhythm of the hours. The Mission of St. Clare and the Daily Office West both post the Daily Office readings. Music is an important part of the life and mission of the Cathedral of St. Paul. The Cathedral Choirs strive to offer meaningful music to the glory of God for the worship that is at the center of our community.

What if I'm not a Christian?
People of all ages, classes and conditions have found a spiritual home at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Whether you are young or old, married or single, straight or gay, rich or poor; whether your faith is strong or weak, clear or uncertain, whether you are seeking or whether you have found; we welcome you to join us in worship, study, reflection and service in the name of Jesus.
