    Nazim B. Fakir

    The Reverend Nazim B. Fakir, M.Div. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Nazim B. Fakir was the second of three children born to Abdul “Duke” Fakir and Inez Clinscales Fakir; he was educated in the Detroit public and private schools, and he received the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Summa Cum Laude from the University of Detroit Mercy. Additionally, he received the Deans Honor Award, the Business Administration Award and was inducted into the Alpha Iota Delta and Beta Gamma Sigma, National Business Academic Honor Societies. Reverend Fakir received the Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Urban Ministry from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, where he was a Garrett-Evangelical Leadership Scholar; receiving a full academic scholarship. Most recently, Rev. Fakir has completed some post-graduate work at Garrett-Evangelical. Reverend Fakir served as a member of the Garrett-Evangelical Board of Trustees, and as Co-chair of the Garrett-Evangelical Black Seminarians. Additionally, he was one of two students selected to serve on the President’s Strategic Planning Committee, as well as serving on the Visioning Task Force for Garrett’s Center for the Church and the Black Experience, where he currently serves as a member of the Board of Visitors, and recently served as its Interim Director. Reverend Fakir was called by God while attending Oak Grove AME Church in Detroit, Michigan; he was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in Grand Rapids, Michigan by Bishop Philip Robert Cousin, Sr. and an Itinerant Elder in Kalamazoo, Michigan by Bishop John Richard Bryant, Presiding Prelate of the 4th Episcopal District and the Senior Bishop of the AME Church. At Oak Grove he worked with and facilitated many ministries while serving as an associate member of the ministerial team. As a field education student, Reverend Fakir served as an associate at Ebenezer AME Church in Evanston, Illinois, and at St. James AME Church in Chicago, Illinois. Most recently Reverend Fakir served as the pastor of Celia Gregg AME Church in Calumet City, Illinois where he led the congregation in the accomplishment of many capital improvements, including the complete tear-off and replacement of the flat roof. On October 14, 2012 God smiled upon him and Bishop John R. Bryant appointed him as pastor of the historic St. Peter’s AME Church in Minneapolis, MN. Reverend Fakir is a man of God who seeks to fulfill the Kingdom agenda in his life and ministry, and is committed to leading St. Peter’s to even higher heights of service and a deeper relationship with Christ, while providing transformative ministry to Minneapolis and beyond. He has been married to the Reverend LaTonya A. Fakir, his partner in life and ministry, for eighteen years and they have three beautiful daughters; Yazmin, Najma and Ilana.
